close the loop: show your supporters their action mattered
People who act and never hear back stop acting. Post an update within a week, name the numbers, and say "because of you". That's how one-time supporters come back.
Someone just emailed a senator because you asked. Then… silence. Did it work? Did anyone read it? Was it worth it? If they never find out, the next time you ask, they'll hesitate. Closing the loop is how you turn one action into trust, and trust into a movement.
what "closing the loop" means
It's the feedback step of the the creator action loop: how to turn followers into regulars: you go back to the people who acted and show them what happened. Real outcomes, real numbers, and a clear "because of you".
On chilli, you do it with updates: short posts on your action page that appear under "the fight so far". Every update goes out to your supporters by email and push notification, so it reaches people after they've left the page, not just when they happen to come back.
what an update can be
- text: what happened, why it matters, what comes next.
- image: the screenshot of the reply, the headline, the crowd.
- video: 30 seconds, face to camera, "here's what you did".
- voice note: the most personal format there is. Record one straight from the app.
Long updates fold after a few lines, with a read more link for the rest. So put the number up top.
Updates show a label so supporters see at a glance where the fight is: we're showing up, people are noticing, they heard us, something is shifting. Supporters can follow the action to get every new update, and react with an emoji: ❤️ ✊ 👍 🔥 or 😰.
post an update in under two minutes
- Open your action page and find the fight so far. Nothing posted yet? It says post your first update (or keep supporters in the loop, before your action is live).
- Tap post an update.
- Write it: tell supporters what happened, why it matters and what comes next.
- Add an image, a video or a voice note if you have one.
- Tap post update. Your supporters get it by email and push.
when to post
As soon as you have something, and no later than a week after the action. Don't wait for the perfect ending. Most fights don't end in a week, but they do move:
- day 1–2: the numbers. "3,200 emails sent to Senator X."
- when they respond: the reply, the statement, the dodge. All of it counts.
- when media picks it up: the headline, with a link.
- when it shifts: the vote, the pause, the withdrawn application.
- when it's hard: a setback, and what we do next. Honesty keeps people around.
Got a new ask rather than news? Add a new way to help (one more task, like a call or an email) to your live action. Your supporters get notified about that too, and the app tells you how many: "312 supporters will be notified". More in ways to help, explained: every type of action on chilli.
what to show
"Action complete" says nothing. "3,200 emails sent to Senator X" says everything. Show:
- policy pressure: emails sent, calls made, comments posted
- public visibility: media coverage, reach, who else joined
- responses: replies, meetings, statements from the target
- money: funds raised and what they paid for
templates you can steal
Because of you, [number] emails landed in [target]'s inbox in [x] days. That's not a petition sitting in a drawer. That's [number] people they now have to answer to. Next step: [what's coming].
They heard us. 🔥 [Target] just [responded / replied / scheduled a meeting / made a statement]. Here's what they said: [quote or screenshot]. This happened because [number] of you showed up. We keep going: [next ask].
Something is shifting. [What changed, in one line.] It's not over, but it's real, and it's yours. Thank you. Here's how we push it over the line: [next ask].
Not the news we wanted: [what happened]. Here's what I know: [number] of you acted, and [target] felt it. We're not done. Next move: [next ask].
post it on socials too
